You’ve always used Wayground for assessments, engaging knowledge checks, and independent practice. However, you can also teach and facilitate classes on Wayground using Lessons.
With Lessons, you can teach live, asynchronously, or a combination of both, and receive valuable live feedback while teaching. You can easily transition from teacher-paced to student-paced modes, which allows you to model instruction using frameworks such as 'I do, we do, you do' or 'Guided Release.'
Instead of creating separate slides for teaching a new concept and separate assessments for student practice, you can teach, practice, and assess, all using the same join code!
This article covers hosting live lessons and assigning them as homework, using tools from the Lessons Toolbox, and gathering live data on student performance. To learn how to create a Lesson, read this article: Create a Lesson on Wayground
Start a live session
Live sessions allow you to control the pace of your Lesson. You can decide whether or not to mirror the content displayed on the presenter’s device onto student devices. This setting also ensures that all slides and questions appear on student devices simultaneously. You can also control whether to pause, move between slides, or stay on the same slide.
To start a live session,
- Select the Lesson you want to start a live session for
- Click on the 'Start now' button
- Customize the session settings as per your requirements
- Click on 'Start'
How students can join a live Lesson
Once you start a Live Lesson, students can join using their apps or on joinmyquiz.com and enter the code you share.
Use Lessons Toolbox during a live Lesson
During your live lessons, you can access various interactive tools to enhance student engagement. Below is a detailed description of each tool and how to use it effectively.
Gather insights and live data during a live Lesson
During your lesson, you can monitor real-time data and insights on student responses and behavior for each question. Go to the responses tab to view accuracy rates and other details for each question. You'll be able to see how many students answered correctly and how many did not, the percentage of correct/incorrect answers, etc., based on the question type.
Using this data, you can choose to pause the gameplay and discuss the question with your class immediately.
When you choose to discuss a question, the 'Eyes up front' and 'Annotate' features will turn on automatically. These will prompt your students to look at your screen and allow you to annotate your screen.
Assign an asynchronous session (as homework)
Students can also use Lessons asynchronously when assigned as homework. They will go through the Lesson on their own time, work through materials, and answer questions to test their knowledge.
To assign a Lesson as homework,
- Select the Lesson you want to assign as homework
- Click on the 'Assign' button
- Customize the session settings as per your requirements
- Click on 'Start'
Questions in a Lesson
Questions can be added to your Lesson for a knowledge check. They work great live and in an Asynchronous way (as homework). There are 15+ question types, much like those for an Assessment (or Quiz) on Wayground. To add a question while creating a Lesson, click the 'Add New Slide' button to see the various question types.
