You can enable the Rotating Question Sets feature when you start or assign an Assessment/Quiz session. With this feature enabled, your students will see a fresh combination of questions from your Assessment/Quiz each time they attempt the session.
The Rotating Question Sets feature is available on the Wayground Individual (Super), Schools, and Districts Plans.
This feature is available for Assessments/Quizzes in the Classic, Test, and homework (Assign) modes.
How do Rotating Question Sets work?
Let's consider this scenario: You have a 10-question Assessment/Quiz, and three students will be taking it: Jon, Kathy, and Mike.
You want your students to be able to reattempt the Assessment/Quiz as many times as you'd like. And, you have the following objectives for this Assessment/Quiz:
- Each time Jon attempts the Assessment/Quiz, he must see a combination of questions different from the one shown to Kathy or Mike.
- Each time the students reattempt the Assessment/Quiz, they must see a combination of questions different from the ones they saw during their previous attempts.
This is where the Rotating Question Set feature comes in. Tt generates unique question sets from your Assessment.
When you enable this feature, you can choose the number of questions you want your students to answer per attempt.
Let's assume you want Jon, Kathy, and Mike to answer three questions each time they attempt the Assessment/Quiz. You want them to be able to attempt it a total of three times each. Here's what their experience might look like.
Student Name | Questions seen in Attempt #1 | Questions seen in Attempt #2 | Questions seen in Attempt #3 |
Jon | Q8, Q3, Q6 | Q3, Q2, Q7 | Q10, Q1, Q5 |
Kathy | Q4, Q10, Q7 | Q3, Q6, Q10 | Q8, Q10, Q7 |
Mike | Q4, Q3, Q7 | Q6, Q2, Q5 | Q3, Q2, Q1 |
As shown in the table above, each of Jon's attempts consists of a unique combination of questions. Additionally, these combinations are distinct from the ones Kathy or Mike answered in their attempts.
In each reattempt, students might see any combination of previously unanswered questions, incorrectly answered questions, and correctly answered questions. This allows for practice through spaced repetition while discouraging students from copying each others' answers.
Note that Rotating Question Sets work best when your Assessment/Quiz contains many questions. This prevents the experience from feeling repetitive for students. For instance, an Assessment/Quiz containing 50+ questions with 10+ questions shown in each attempt would be ideal.
Enabling Rotating Question Sets
Here’s how you can enable adaptive learning on your Assessment/Quiz:
- Start by choosing the Assessment/Quiz that you want to start a session with. You can either create the Assessment/Quiz yourself or search for one from the Wayground library
- Make sure that the Assessment/Quiz has more than 10 questions
- Now, choose the mode you would like to use. Rotating Question Sets can be enabled in Homework sessions, and the Classic and Test modes for live sessions
- Once you’ve chosen the mode, click on 'Customize'
- Scroll down to the 'Mastery' section
- Go to 'Rotating Question Set' and use the drop-down menu next to select the number of questions you want to include in each attempt
- Review the remaining settings, and click on 'Start' (for live sessions) or 'Assign' (for homework sessions)
Your students can now join the Assessment/Quiz and participate in a personalized learning experience with each attempt.
Note:
You can set the number of participant attempts according to your requirements. You can allow your students to attempt the Assessment/Quiz once, twice, thrice, or an unlimited number of times.
