AI-Powered Answer Explanations for Incorrect Answers

Our new AI-powered Answer Explanations feature offers personalized step-by-step explanations to help students understand why they answered a question incorrectly and how to arrive at the correct answer. This feature helps students understand concepts by providing tailored explanations for each incorrect response based on the corresponding Bloom's Taxonomy level.

This article will explain how to enable the AI-powered Answer Explanations for your students, how students will experience it, and how you can assess its impact on class accuracy in the Assessment/Quiz report.

How to enable AI-powered Answer Explanations for your students

You can enable this feature for your students on the session settings page when starting a live session in Classic mode or assigning a homework session.

  1. Select the Assessment/Quiz
  2. Click on 'Start now' to start a live session, or click on 'Assign' to assign the session as homework. This will open the session settings page
    • In the case of live sessions, choose 'Classic mode' as the session mode



  3. Toggle on () the 'AI Answer Explanations' option
  4. Review and modify the remaining settings as per your requirements
  5. Click on 'Start' or 'Assign' from the top right corner to start the live session or assign it as homework, respectively

Your students will now get clear, tailored explanations for every incorrect answer!

Note:
  1. Enabling this feature will automatically disable the following session setting options: Mastery Mode, Reattempts per question, Redemption Quiz, Redemption Questions, and Question timer
  2. The session setting option 'Show answers during activity' will be turned on automatically if you have enabled Answer Explanations 
  3. This feature supports Assessments/Quizzes in the following subjects: Math, English, Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Social Studies, Geography, and History
  4. This feature does not support questions with videos

How to preview Answer Explanations

You can also preview the Answer Explanations that will be displayed to your students for each question and response.

Before clicking the 'Start' or Assign' button on the session settings page,

  1. Click on 'Preview' near the toggle button for 'AI Answer Explanations'
  2. Click on a question to preview the content of the answer explanation



  3. Click on an option to preview the answer explanation for that specific option

Student experience

When the Answer Explanation option is enabled, an interactive panel will open up on the right-hand side of the student's screen if they answer a question incorrectly. This panel will offer detailed, personalized explanations to assist students in arriving at the correct answer.

Once they are confident about the correct answer, they can click on the 'Reattempt' button to answer the same question correctly.

Reports and data

In the Assessment/Quiz report, you will learn about the class accuracy improvement rate due to the enabled AI-powered Answer Explanation feature for your students.

Additionally, to see how AI-powered Answer Explanations have impacted class accuracy, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Reports page
  2. Select the Assessment/Quiz that was assigned with the Answer Explanation option enabled
  3. Toggle on () the 'Show report with repetitions' option

When Answer Explanation is enabled, the report will show the overall improvement in class accuracy. You can toggle off the 'Show report with repetitions' option and then toggle it on again to compare accuracy before and after students have used the AI-powered Answer Explanation feature.
